A report card tells you how your child is doing. It doesn't tell you why. A "C" in maths could mean a shaky grasp of place value from two years ago, trouble reading word problems, or simply rushing. Each of those needs a different fix.
Gaps hide under newer topics
Learning builds on itself. A child who never quite understood place value will struggle with decimals, then with percentages. By the time the grades slip, the original gap can be several years back. Extra practice on this term's topic doesn't fix it.
What we look at
Our diagnostic is a 30-minute conversation and set of tasks, matched to your child's year level. We look at:
- What your child can do on their own, and where they need a prompt.
- How they think: we ask them to explain their working, because the reasoning shows more than the answer.
- Patterns in mistakes: one wrong answer is noise, the same error three times is a gap.
- Reading and language: in maths and science, many "maths problems" are really reading problems.
What you take home
You receive a written report showing where your child is strong and where they need support, and a personalised three-month plan. For NAPLAN years (3, 5, 7 and 9) we include a forecast of where your child is likely to land and a realistic target.
The plan is yours to keep whether or not you enrol with us. If we don't think we're the right help for your child, we'll say so.
